In just one short month my small world
has completely changed. I’ve been thrust (willingly… mostly) into adulthood in
more ways than one. I interviewed and was offered my first ever teaching job, I
married the love of my life two days later, and we moved cross country to our
new home in North Carolina, a state up until this adventure began I had never
set foot in, after our honeymoon. Why move from Texas to North Carolina you may
ask? One word: seminary. My husband has been called to be a Methodist minister,
a calling that requires a Masters of Divinity from a seminary. After many
months of prayer, we both felt as if he were being guided towards Duke University.
Our God, who faithfully takes care of his sheep, opened doors for us. Michael
was given the blessed opportunity of serving as a student pastor while attending
seminary. This job not only gives him experience, but also provides our family
with a much needed income, and a parsonage. So, with faith, off we went to the
small town of Broadway, North Carolina. We have been in our new, and might I
say precious, home for two weeks now. Michael and I have experienced many
things from the true meaning of “Southern hospitality” to North Carolina’s
version of BBQ. Through it all, the only constants have been the guidance of
Christ and the blessings that have been poured down on my young family. This
brings me to the purpose of this blog. We are far from everything we know, our families,
our friends, our wonderful Tex-Mex food. Because of that, I wanted to be able
to not only use this blog to communicate with our loved ones, but also to share
our highs, lows, prayers, funny stories, adventures, and blessings with all who
choose to care. I am no professional writer, but I hope that this blog brings
you joy despite the grammatical mistakes. This teacher and her preacher ask for
your prayers throughout our journey, and invite you into a little bit of our
lives through this blog.
And that’s what happens when a teacher marries a preacher…
